LCD Soundsystem - American Dream
9/14/2017
Oh baby. This thing starts up and every positive thought you've ever had about LCD Soundsystem is at attention - at some point, the plodding, saturated bass synth transcended mere recognizability and became a full-on sonic signature. It's a refreshing, exciting moment, recalling the universally good feelings that accompany everyone's bank of Dance Yrself Clean memories.
Alas, one is soon reminded of other, less-treasured signifiers as well. Camouflaged as they are by tinges of Suicide (2017's revival du jour), they're all here - James Murphy's mewling, tired-ass DFA Records drum programming, a song called emotional haircut; it's impossible not to recognize this as LCD Soundsystem, Brooklyn's own sentient self-parody.
