Circuit des Yeux - Reaching for Indigo
11/30/2017
The first time I saw Circuit des Yeux, she was howling and writhing all over the stage in a small Irish pub in Raleigh. It was completely disruptive to the otherwise tranquil Friday night scene, and one of the more impressive shows that I had seen in some time.
The next time I heard about Circuit des Yeux, she had changed names and become a cowgirl. This was different; while less insistently Art!, it more than made up the difference by sounding like nothing else being produced currently.
Most recently, I found October's Reaching for Indigo. Like everything else she's made, it's both a summation and an advancement of everything that has come before it. This is nice, because it means that if you've ever heard a Circuit des Yeux/Jackie Lynn song that interested you, it's natural successor can likely be found on this album. While singles Black Fly and < hred=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNfLqCZkFWc>Brainshift are the obvious, unbelievable highlights (of the year, decade, era of recorded music in the case of the former), this may be the year's album most worth buying, and not just because Drag City flatly refuses to put its releases on streaming services.
Highlights: Black Fly, Brainshift, Falling Blonde
